Should University Students Go In for Business?
Nowadays, there emerged a heated discussion concerning the attitude we should taketowards the
phenomenon that university students of increasing number are devotingthemselves to business. Some
thought that the students business experience would helpthem adapt better to the society after
graduation, while others held a negative view, sayingthat running shops might occupy too much of the
students’ time and energy which should bedevoted to their academic study. I’m in favor of the latter,
for I think the disadvantages ofgoing for business of university students outweigh those advantages it
may bring. In thefollowing context I am to make my argument convincing by elaborating on my 3
reasons.First things first, we should keep in mind that it is our top priority to study and accumulate
asmuch as possible in our 4 years in college. Academic study is a guarantee of our future careerand
paves the way to our potential success. Engaging ourselves in business requires us tospare a huge
amount of time and energy that should be used for our studies, and as a result,we may ruin our studies
in the process. Going in for business is not sensible for collegestudents as it may deprive us of
chances to study and better occupation in the future.Besides, college students are often not well-
prepared, psychologically and emotionally, toengage in business. It is often said that the circle of
business resembles a battlefield. Thecompetition there may be so fierce that collegians can hardly
adapt to it. It is also true thatbusinessmen are of various characters and temperament, so it becomes
very difficult forthose inexperienced and unsophisticated college students get along with them well,
let alonemake friends with them or make a big money.
Moreover, college students are not financially suitable to explore the business circle. There isno
denying that going in for business needs a huge imput of money, which is something mostcollege students
lack. It is impossible to establish a business without a decent financial imput.Even if someone has
such money, he still stands a fat chance of making success in business, since he may lack in the skills
of money management to bring his money into full play or toinvest his money rationally or
proportionately.
From what has been discussed above, we can safely reach to the conclusion that it is irrationaland
unnecessary for university students to go in for business. Instead, university studentsshould bear in
mind that study is their priority during their college life. Only when they’reacademically,
financially and emotionally mature can they attempt to engage themselves inbusiness and stand a chance
of success.
